Islamabad: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has appealed to the 'establishment' to forgo what it called the bitter past and grant it clemency while reiterating it is patriotic and loyal to Pakistan.
"Just as clemency is being announced for the estranged Baloch people, the establishment should also heal the wounds of Mohajirs by forgetting past bitterness," the MQM coordination committee said in a statement which tried at length the presence and training of MQM workers in India.
The party claimed that thousands of MQM workers had left for Europe, the United States and Canada after 1992 operation and took asylum there. Some MQM workers opted to go to India where they had family relations to "save themselves from hunger and persecution".
Those who returned to Pakistan and have confessed having received funds and training from the India spy agency RAW "did so without informing the party", the statement said. "The MQM has nothing to do with the training of the people who had gone to India," it added.
It said that the MQM was a patriotic political party and it would continue to be unconditionally loyal to Pakistan. It added that the 'wounds of Mohajirs' be heeled and they may be made party of mainstream politics.
The committee appealed to the establishment to review its policy on the basis of these facts and urged it to "stop isolating Mohajirs" from the mainstream.
