Mumbai building collapse victim's appeal video goes viral

The news of Ghatkopar building collapse on July 25 came as a thunderbolt for Binita Ramchandani. The 30-year-old's home was reduced to rubble.
Her mother is one of the survivors of the four-storeyed building, which crumbled like a pack of cards. Narrating the incident to Khaleej Times, Binita says, "My mother was stuck in the debris for hours before she was rescued. She had bruises all over, is experiencing intense back pain and has been advised bed rest for the next six weeks."
Many families have lost their loved ones and are still waiting for justice. The best way for Binita to share her harrowing ordeal with public was social media.
She went live on Facebook on July 26 for the first time from the debris that was once her home. Her emotional message was shared over 1,500 times and has received over 564,000 views till date.

Since July 25, the former journalist has been posting one Facebook live video every day, updating the viewers about the meetings with the government officials, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the investigations thereon. "We were told that a temporary home will be provided within 200-250 metres radius and we are hoping that it happens soon. The fight will be on to get a permanent home for all those who lost it," she told Khaleej Times.

Binita has become the face of the #GhatkoparBuildingCollapse campaign and has appeared on television channels to spread the cause.
"I have been running from pillar to post for answers and wish that nobody has to go through this nightmare in their life. We hope the ordeal ends soon."
On July 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned a compensation of Rs2 lakh to kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 each for those injured in the building collapse. Few families have already the promised cheques. 

Investigations in the probe have revealed that the Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap planned to build a modern maternity home on the ground floor. The alterations made to the building are what allegedly led to the caving in of the building. Shitap will be in police custody until August 7, 2017.
