The Dubai Municipality will launch the activities of its annual summer safety campaign under the slogan ‘Safe and Healthy Summer’ in its club located in Al Garhoud today.
The campaign activitied to be held in public areas in the emirate, are aimed at raising awareness and instil a safety culture among all segments of the society with regard to summer and heat stress.
Redha Salman, Director of Public Health and Safety Department, said this is the sixth consecutive year of ‘Safe and Healthy Summer’ campaign, targeting workers, families, beachgoers and visitors of open areas.
“Global warming has been increasing every year and the direct and indirect effects of high temperature are terrifying. Many people are getting ill and die as a result of lack of protection from heat stress and lack of awareness about safety measures,” Salman said.
“Hence, the municipality will ensure cooperation between both private and public sectors to ensure the safety and health of employees and spread awareness about the regulations and laws issued by the municipality.”
The campaign also aims at educating workers about the dangers of heat stress, creating awareness about its risk and to apply the best practices in work sites during the summer, providing actual treatment of heat stress.
“High temperature with humidity lead to excessive sweating in an attempt to cool the body resulting in rapid dehydration (excessive loss of body water and important electrolytes), which causes various heat-related illnesses and can lead to heat exhaustion and heatstroke if not controlled. It is necessary to drink plenty of water,” Salman added.
