ABU DHABI - Khalifa Mohammed Al Mazroui, General Manager of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has stated that celebrating the Forestation Week is a recognition of the mega efforts and great successes achieved by the UAE in expanding green spaces, parks and recreational facilities
that have turned the cities into green gardens and contributed to achieving the agricultural and environmental successes, and culminating the pioneering ideas and generous contributions of our prudent leadership.
In his speech marking the start of the Municipality’s celebrations of the 33rd Forestation Week, which will be kicked off today at the Formal Park, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Mazroui, said, “It is heartening to see our agricultural renaissance constantly evolving and graciously privileged by our wise leadership; which is a clear-cut guarantee for the sustained agricultural projects. Therefore, with each renewal of the Forestation Week celebrations we will witness new achievements, be it mega parks, recreational facilities or agricultural achievements that we are proud of and strive to sustain and develop.”
He added that “The adoption of the slogan “Let’s Plant the UAE” for this year’s Forestation Week stands out as a clear testament to the harmony between the urban development and agricultural development, especially landscaping including flowers, trees, bushes and wonderful geometric configurations seen across the width and breadth of our cities.
It is the slogan that the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has been keen to perpetuate and consolidate by making significant agricultural achievements, and expanding green spaces in addition to the sharp and remarkable increase in the number of fruit trees, forest trees, seedlings and flowers which have given us more determination to make more successful agricultural achievements,”
The poet Majid Al Minhali elocuted a poem eulogising the modern, urban and agricultural development seen by the UAE, thanks to the beneficent hands of the UAE wise leadership, and glorifying patriotism, which is the most valuable thing in our lives. Then the female students of the Family Development Foundation enacted a skit underlying the importance of adhering to the proper conduct to safeguard the green spaces in gardens and public parks.
Al Mazroui and the accompanying officials and guests visited the exhibition held on the sidelines of the event, featuring the participation of several public and private entities including the community police, Civil Defense, UAE University, Emirates Environmental Group, Emirates Female Guides Association, Women’s General Federation, Zayed Foundation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs and a number of companies specialised in the agricultural field.
Al Mazroui and the audience were ushered through the park, where they planted a palm tree to mark the start of a new Forestation Week, whereas a number of male / female students who attended the celebration presented a number of events depicting the occasion.
It is noteworthy that the Forestation Week initiative aims at educating the community on the importance of forestation, besides ensuring the participation of all age groups in maintaining agriculture, and consolidating agricultural values and their significance in the hearts of young people, including male / female students.
The event is also intended to educate the public on the role played by the UAE municipalities in this regard in addition to providing avenues, parks and recreational facilities to citizens and residents, growing trees and other plants at different nurseries, and landscaping cities by planting trees and green belts.
The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is keen on ensuring diversity and excellence in constructing theme parks capable of attracting tourism & investments, besides landscaping the neighborhoods, roads and bridges.
The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City also undertakes a vital and significant role in providing natural avenues, parks, and landscaping streets, besides seeking to provide multiple alternatives for the population to frequent parks and recreational facilities which are built at the world’s highest standards in terms of nurturing healthy environment and providing modern services.
It is also working towards upgrading these potentials and constantly improving services by means of vital projects in this area and developing plans that contribute to enhancing the profile & ranking of Abu Dhabi city among top five metropolitan cities worldwide through providing high quality services and striking a balance between green spaces and infrastructure in keeping with the population density in order to increase the per capita green spaces.
