As many as 70 parks and recreation areas will be coming up in different parts of the emirate in the near future, Dawood Al Hajri, the Director of the Planning Department at the Dubai Municipality said on Thursday.
The official was attending to calls from the public as part of the recently introduced ‘Managers on Air’ initiative which aims to facilitate interaction between senior officials of the civic body with the general public over the telephone.
“There were many calls from people inquiring about the expansion plans, technical details about the plans etc.
“The Dubai Municipality will be coming up with many new parks and recreation areas for the people in the coming time. People will get a lot of green areas,” he said.
Earlier, senior DM officials have stated that as part of its Strategic Plan for 2007-2011, they would be increasing the per capita share of greenery to 23.4 square metres and raise the total area of cultivated land to 3.15 per cent of the total urban land by 2011.
The civic body has also disclosed that all community parks in Dubai will soon have state-of-the-art gymnasiums and swimming pools for both men and women. Dubai currently has four types of parks - public parks, pond or lake parks, neighbourhood parks and community parks.
Meanwhile, Hajri said that many people were a worried lot as they thought that the ongoing Dubai Metro project will result in the vanishing of many residential areas.
“There were many calls in connection with this doubt.
“The entire plan of the Dubai Metro has been chalked out keeping each and every technical detail in mind. I want to assure the people that no houses will be removed because of the Dubai Metro project.
“The Metro will not affect any homes. There might be certain road projects which might affect some of the residential areas though. But then we don’t have any doubts in our minds regarding the Dubai Metro,” he said.
