The Director of Car Licensing Department in the RTA, Mohammed Abdul Karim Namat, said, “The museum will be something like what Sharjah has. Cars, branded as ‘Classic’ or ‘Vintage’, will be on display in this museum.

Cars aged 30 to 50 years will be given the ‘Classic’ tag and those older than 50 years would be treated as ‘Vintage’, after proper checks, Namat said.

“The vehicles will be tested and inspected by the museum authorities, and the Licensing Department will issue a special ‘brown’ number plate for the car. The museum will decide whether or not such cars would be allowed to run on the roads,” he pointed out. Sources said the RTA would tie up with the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club to judge the vintage value of the cars.
