BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the issue of women’s safety in the country.
Raking up the Dec 16 gang rape in Delhi, Modi said the Congress has done nothing to ensure women’s safety and Sonia Gandhi, despite being a women, is misleading other women.
“You have announced Rs.1,000 crore as the Nirbhaya fund and said that this money will be used for the daughters of this country. Despite announcing the fund, you did not spend even a single rupee from it,” Modi said at a rally in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district.
Modi said promises made by the Congress about women’s safety do not look good.
“There is not even a single BJP-ruled state among the top 10 states where the maximum atrocities against women happened,” said Modi.
He also brought up the issue of a Congress women party worker in Maharashtra’s Latur city, who recently went missing. She was later found dead and a party member was arrested in this case, said Modi.
“If members of your own party are not safe, how will you ensure the safety of this country,” Modi asked.
