Nationals invited to 2nd session of Quran contest

DUBAI - The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) has invited the UAE nationals to apply for the second session of the National Quran Memorisers Competition, one of the award's several branches, that was instituted last year as part of its expansion plans.

Ibrahim Bu Melha, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Justice Department, Dubai Attorney-General and Chairman of DIHQA, said this branch was launched on the instructions of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, to encourage the UAE citizens of all ages and levels to memorise the holy book and follow its teachings in their daily life.

An award of Dh 20,000 will be given to the participants who score marks above the average of 75. The participation is open to any UAE citizen who has memorised the entire 30 chapters of the Holy Quran. The participants will be examined before a judging panel on September 13 and 14 and the winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates of appreciation at a special ceremony on September 18, said Aref Al Sheikh, member of DIHQA Organising Committee and head of the technical committee.

"Any UAE national who memorise by heart the entire Holy Quran and who has never participated at the international Holy Quran Competition, nor had earlier won any of the first three prizes of the local competition, is eligible to take part in the competition, irrespective of the age and gender," explained Dr Al Sheikh. He noted that the last date for submitting entries to the National Quran Memorisers Competition is August 17.

Meanwhile, DIHQA Organising Committee is holding regular meetings to discuss the final proposal for transforming the award to an independent Quran Establishment.
