In line with this year's theme for the World Blood Donor Day 'Thank you for the Gift of Life', the Blood Bank would be organising a variety of events to thank the donors for their life saving gift.
"This year, we not only want to raise awareness of donating blood and its importance, but on this occasion we also want to thank our donors who provide nearly all the nation's blood supply for transfusion," said Dr Naima Oumeziane, Acting Clinical Director of the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank. "If all eligible donors give blood twice a year, it would greatly help in maintaining an adequate blood supply for the country."
The Blood Bank that operates under the direction of Shaikh Khalifa Medical City and the General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GAHS) covers the need of both government and private hospitals in the emirate, in addition to offering support to other emirates.
As part of the World Blood Donor Day activities, an SMS would be sent to more than 150,000 Etisalat subscribers, encouraging them to donate blood. A health awareness booth with educational materials and gifts would be open from 10am to 10pm on the third floor of the Abu Dhabi Mall from today until June 15.
A Mobile Blood Bank Donation drive would also take place at the entrance of the mall and those interested can donate blood from 8.30am to 1pm, and 5.30 to 10pm. Educational brochures, leaflets and posters would be distributed to organisations and at the Blood Bank.
