Need to set up association of pharmacists underlined

DUBAI — “There is no need to establish a law in the UAE which allows pharmacists to dispense medicines to patients with doctor’s prescription because they already have the clinical knowledge,” said Ali Al Sayed Hussain, Assistant Hospital Director, Clinical Support Services, Al Wasl Hospital, and Chairman of Pharmacy Technical Committee and of Duphat 2006.

Highlighting the issues being tackled at the Duphat 2006, Dr Hussain said, “Among the several issues being discussed at the conference, the most important one is how prepared are we to tackle the increasing costs of medicine the world over and is there any law to curb the increase?"

Dr Hussain also said that the pharmacist was actually an adviser to the physician. “They are experts in medicine, and they should do their job properly and they are also an important part of the medical team,” he said.

He also underlined the urgent need for setting up a pharmacists' association in the UAE. “Such an association is much needed in the UAE to preserve the rights of pharmacists,” he said.
