Announcing the launch of a new range of mobile numbers, a senior official said yesterday that Etisalat has been allocated the mobile range ‘0566’ by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and new mobile numbers in this range will soon be available to customers across the UAE.

A new application for this code was made as the current ‘050’ code is nearing the limit of numbers that can be issued. Customer demand has necessitated the introduction of a new mobile number series, he said.

Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, chief operating officer of Etisalat, said: “The ‘050’ prefix, which we have been using ever since we introduced the GSM mobile service in the UAE in 1994, is reaching its maximum capacity, and we are very excited about the introduction of a new mobile code. This will enable us to reach out to our customers with renewed strength, and identify many new opportunities for expansion, development and success. We see ‘0566’ as our new platform to reach out to customers across the nation, and conduct even more promotions and campaigns that will support growth in the telecom sector.”

Julfar added: “In spite of an already-high GSM penetration rate, we still believe there is significant room for growth as the UAE itself is seeing immense growth and economic development, which is attracting companies and people to the UAE, thereby also expanding the market for telecom services. This is why we see it as important that ‘0566’ be brought to market as early as possible.”

“The launch of a new series of mobile numbers with a new prefix is also a good opportunity for us to introduce new pricing plans, which we are sure, will go a long way in satisfying our customers’ needs,” he noted.
