New fruit and vegetable market in Ajman to open by year-end

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Ali Al Hamrani, Director General of Ajman Municipality said that the new market would officially be opened by His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuiami, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. “The owners of the shops and stalls in the old market will soon be notified about the deadline for shifting from the old market to the new market,” said the director general.

After the inauguration, the municipality will be coordinating with the Ajman Police for shifting facilities from the old market to the new one, he said explaining that the shifting basically included the movement of containers, heavy vehicles, cold storages and reefers, among numerous other vehicles that serve the requirements of the new market.

He said that the new market, which is located on the Al Ahmadiya Road, is easily accessible to people from various parts of the emirate.

The market, Mr. Al Hamrani said, is designed to meet the requirements of the emirate’s vegetables and fruits trade and it will contribute to speedy development process taking place in Ajman. Mr. Al Hamrani also pointed out that the Ajman Municipality would take care of the waste management, security, house keeping and other services at the market.

He said that nearly 70 per cent of the earmarked area has been utilised for construction of the market premises, while the remaining 30 per cent would be used for expansion in the future.

Mr. Al Hamrani also said that the new market, which is among several of the municipality’s projects that contribute to the emirate’s infrastructural development, has a modern design and includes an administrative block and wholesale and retail markets.

“The wholesale market comprises several blocks consisting a total of more than 200 outlets and stalls. Each shop in the market is provided with two parking lots for loading the goods on one side and two for unloading on the other side.''

''Centralised refrigerators and warehouses have also been set up in this section,” he informed.

Mr. Al Hamrani added there was a rest area for truck drivers, a cafeteria, residential quarters for workers, a mosque, garbage collection areas, a police station and restaurants as well as an administrative section.

“An external parking lot that can accommodate trucks and cars of the customers would also be ready by the time the market is fully operational,” he added.
