New signage to spruce up capital's beauty

ABU DHABI — In a move to spruce up the image of Abu Dhabi, the City Image Management Section in Abu Dhabi Municipality is replacing the old signboards on buildings with new signages.

According to the head of CIMS and General Services Sector in the municipality, Omar Mohamed Al Hashmi, "The old-fashioned signboards in front of the buildings will be replaced with new as prescribed by the CIMS. However, our inspectors are removing the old signboards. We will remove all of them by the end of this year."

Al Hashmi said, "The name, colour combination, text style and size will all combine to make a difference. They must reflect a unique fashion befitting the capital's aura."

The department will sanction new signboards for the buildings only after reviewing whether they adhere to the department's standards, he added .

The department recorded 140 violations concerning display and quality of signboards. Defaulters had to pay fines ranging from Dh200 to Dh2,000 for various violations.
