No Construction Work After Sunset, Warns Dubai Municipality

“According to the rules, construction activities must not be carried out after 8pm unless the contractor has got a special permission from the civic body.

“This permission is given after taking into consideration a lot of things, including the area where the construction site is located and the distance from other residences.”

The contractor who continues construction after sunset without permission will invite stringent action, including warning for the first-time offence, fine for the second time and cancellation of licence if the same is repeated, he said.

Al Shuhhi said the civic body had received similar complaints in the recent past and taken appropriate action.

“Once a complaint is lodged, we send our inspectors to the site. We have found some contractors carrying out work in the night despite giving the municipality written undertakings that they will not repeat the offence.”

As per the rules, the sound level should not exceed 55 decibels during daytime and 45 decibels during evenings. Residents affected by noise can call up the municipality on toll-free number 800-900. Meanwhile, people living in different localities said the night-time construction is a major source of worry for them.

“I live in a building near the Al Murooj Complex near Burj Dubai. I am troubled everyday by the noise from a construction site nearby. It doesn’t stop for a single minute and I cannot have good sleep and this is affecting my health.

“Complaints have been made to the police and the municipality without any result,” said Abraham Kuruvilla.

“Living near the Grand Millenium Hotel in Al Barsha is a big problem because of the ongoing construction. Many buildings are coming up in the area now and the sound is unbearable,” said a resident.
