The Dubai Police are set to launch a new initiative 'Sahlat' to facilitate people to lodge complaints against dud cheques, without visiting the police station.
Colonel Majed Al Swaidi, deputy director of Al Barsha police station, said that the move will help people register such complaints through Dubai Police's smart application.
He said that earlier, the creditor had to visit the police station to lodge complaint against bounced/dud cheques. The police gave the creditor a letter to submit it to the bank to get its written approval and signature. The creditor then needed to come back to the police station with the bank's letter of consent.
However, following the new initiative, the person will only have to go to Dubai Police's app, enter the details, follow the instructions and lodge the complaint. After this, the police will send it to the bank. Once they get approval from the bank, they would inform the person.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out in November.
Majed said that the Dubai Police is trying to reduce visits of people to police stations by 80 per cent to save their time and bring them happiness. He said that in dud cheque instances, the parties would be allowed to reach an amicable solution before registering the case or refer it to the prosecution and court.
He said that people who live outside the country can also use the service, if the dud cheque is issued in Dubai.
