DUBAI -The objects used by the imperial family of Habsburg which ruled over the Austrian empire for nearly 1,000 years, will be on display from December 8 to 17 at the Cultural Foundation of Abu Dhabi.
The "Treasures from the Imperial Household" exhibition is the first imperial exhibition of Austria in the Arab World. The exhibition will be held to celebrate the inauguration of the Austrian Embassy in Abu Dhabi a year ago. Objects of the imperial silver chamber and the Imperial Museum Vienna used in the household of Emperor Francis-Joseph and his wife Elisabeth, will be on display. Most of the items will be carried from the Imperial Museums of Vienna which are keeping all the Treasury and the objects that were used by the Habsburg family.
Among the items that will be displayed are the imperial regalias, including the imperial crown, Imperial mound, and Imperial sceptre, used by the emperor during official ceremonies.
The exhibition will also include imperial tables set with golden girandoles and candleholders. The imperial family used only plates and cutlery made from precious metal to dine. During journeys, the imperial court took their furniture as well as their precious services with them. Empress Elisabeth had a special silver service made which she used during her trips and journeys.
The Austrian Ambassador, Dr Kriechbaum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as important official from both countries will support and attend the exhibition.
The Cultural Foundation is supporting this prestigious project by providing space free of charge, organising media and public relation activities and will send the invitations to VIP's, politicians and other important persons in the field of business and culture.
An Austrian music and culinary week including Viennese Patisserie will also be organised at the Inter-Continental in Abu Dhabi.
The event is aimed at building a cultural bridge between Austria and UAE and enhancing cultural and economical ties between Austria and the UAE.
