Nature lovers should take a trip down to Emirates Park Zoo

Here's a selection of fun activities to do to make the most of the last few days of the cool weather

Abu Dhabi boasts of amazing attractions right from vast stretches of deserts to stunning beaches. Before the height of the summer is upon us, adventure aficionados should take the time out and explore some "off the beaten path" activities that the capital has to offer.
Visit Emirates Park Zoo and Resort
Nature lovers should take a trip down to this attraction, which is home to a colourful number of wildlife and has an array of features, attractions and interactive activities. An ideal spot for the whole family to enjoy, the zoo is a great place for both kids and adults to stay connected to nature and wildlife. The zoo home to more than 1,800 animals and 250 different species and it works towards protecting cheetahs, tigers and other endangered species. You can also opt to stay at the resort for the weekend and enjoy animal encounters, feeding sessions, kids pool and slides, waterfalls and take part in fun shows.

Stop by Heritage Village Abu Dhabi
Soak in the culture of the city here. The venue has a bedouin village that has been recreated and consists of tents, a small mosque and a souk. You can see some traditional culture here like goat rearing and falaj (irrigation system). It also allows visitors to participate in different activities such as weaving and spinning, etc. Don't forget to check out the spice shop here. It is a colourful marketplace where you can get your hands on some exotic herbs and knick-knacks to decorate your home.

Take a trip to the Wathba Wetland Reserve
Head here to escape from the bustling city life. Located on the edge of Baniyas, it is known as Flamingo City. It is a complex of surface water bodies, both natural and man-made, around 40km southeast of central Abu Dhabi, just after crossing Mussafah. The reserve is one of the few undisturbed wildlife areas in the country and is a great place for a long walk through woodlands and shrubbery. It has two clearly marked walking trails, which give great views of the flamingo colonies. The reserve is open for public on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8am to 2pm.

Take up pottery
Once you put your hands in clay, you will surely get hooked on to it. It's a group activity where you get the chance to create something from your own hands. Since 1994, Abu Dhabi Pottery has introduced countless students to the techniques of working with clay. They also teach drawing, painting, designing ceramic tiles, making jewellery with clay, and painting pottery.

Try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding
One of the most fascinating ways to experience the waters of Abu Dhabi is through stand up paddle boarding. Adventure seekers should experience this activity, as it combines the agility of surfing with the control of paddling. The activity allows you to explore the capital's mangrove forests and pristine coastlines and is a great full-body workout. This activity is trending in 2017 with both athletes and yoga-lovers paddling their way across water for fitness fun, enjoying workouts atop a paddleboard surrounded by sun, sea and surf.

Check out the Emirates National Auto Museum
This one is sure to be a hit with car collectors! Located around 45 km south of Abu Dhabi, the museum houses around 200 cars belonging to Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. There are a number of off-road vehicles and classic American cars, the Mercedes rainbow collection and more. Among its collections is the stunning replica of the world map on wheels. The largest truck in the world, the Dodge Power Wagon eight times the original size, is also on display. The wagon is an exact replica down to the minutest detail although it has a few modifications such as the tailgate opens up like a patio. There is also a staircase that leads up to the front door. The museum is open everyday from 9am to 6pm.
