Pearson has created 39 new books for schools with 13 new full colour textbooks, 13 new homework books and 13 new teacher’s editions for 35,000 students.
Over 100 schools in all three Education Zones have received the new textbooks which provide Mathematics and Science content in English.
“The ADEC is working hard with schools to make learning enjoyable and challenging for our students, especially in Mathematics and Science,” said Dr Al Khalili.
“Students now have the opportunity to access their online textbooks from their home computers and will have much more flexibility to search and scan the content and increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject matter,” he added.
Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Director of ADEC, said, “I believe that the online textbooks will be very helpful to Mathematics and Science teachers. Using technology in this way helps teachers make their lessons more interesting and meaningful.
“For example, the online versions of each textbook can be used on interactive whiteboards at the school,” he said.
Dubbed the Pearson Reader, teachers from each ADEC school received print and online versions of each new textbook, giving the teachers world class content and innovative bi-lingual tools to edit the books online to better meet the needs of local students.
All new books are as per the new ADEC curriculum, giving teachers the flexibility to use print or online content to teach a core skill or indicator.
With the online textbooks, approved teachers are able to add translations in Arabic.
This allows students to receive Arabic help in completing the English activities in Mathematics and Science.
“By this time next year, we hope the online books will look significantly different to the books the schools start with today. The ADEC has some great teachers and advisors who will be able to take the online books and make them their own,” said Cameron Craig, Pearson Development Manager.
