The event was part of a series of fundraisers, open days and public awareness campaigns on issues related to breast cancer, breastfeeding and diabetes organised by the hospital in collaboration with public and private organisations in Al Ain.

The 10km fun run and 4km walk started from Al Jimi Shopping Centre, meandering through the roundabouts of Shaikh Mubrek, Al Khirais, Al Silimi, Municipality, Kubrat, and ended at Al Jimi Shopping Centre.

Nine members of Al Ain Disabled Club - six of them in wheel-chairs, one visually impaired, one mentally challenged and one with cerebral palsy - took part in the event.

T-shirts bearing the slogan 'Let's beat Diabetes' were distributed among the participants.

"We believe that educating people on different health issues is the first step towards curative healthcare. This is why we are very pleased to co-sponsor this event," Clyde H. Eder, Tawam Hospital Director and Chief Executive Officer, said.

He expressed his gratitude to "all who turned out to show their support for this activity. Our clinic receives well over 5,000 patients with diabetes annually.

A. Neal Mangham, Director of Al Ain Men's College said: "We are very delighted to be a part of this community outreach to beat diabetes. It is a part of a series of programmes we are organising with Tawam Hospital. I am very pleased to take part, for the first time, in such an event and 20 of my colleagues are also participating."
