The congress is being held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“Bringing professional congresses to Dubai is a key strategic priority, since it contributes to our positioning as a primary destination for events, and also helps expand the knowledge economy of the UAE through discussion and debate,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director-General of Dubai World Trade Centre.

Dubai won the bid for the Annual World Dental Congress due to the strong spirit of cooperation and coordination that unites government bodies and local organisations. Among other major cities in competition for the event were Stockholm, Istanbul and Rio de Janeiro.

“The development process for these major events takes years — sometimes even decades — because of the care and attention to detail that is required,” said Abdul Salam Al Madani, President, Index Holding, the local partner for the congress.

The impact on the local hospitality industry is already apparent — hotels and restaurants are reporting 100 per cent occupancy for the week, with major delegations expected from as far as Australia and Scandinavia.
