In the first phase of the plan, the management will allocate 137 parking at the main entrance of the waterfront as paid parking, out of 1000 parking spaces designated for visitors in the areas surrounding and opposite to Al Majaz Waterfront.
The new strategy is aimed at dealing with problems resulting from the rapid increase in the number of visitors, provide practical and parking management solutions and curb the misuse of parking spaces designated for visitors to the Waterfront, as well as to increase the number of parking spaces in future.
The management revealed that the parking will be free for the first 30 minutes, and exceeding the 30 minutes the parking fee will be charged at Dh5 per hour. Barriers will be installed in the main entrance, opposite to the mosque, while electronic screens showing the status of parking lots will be available so that visitors will be informed if there are any available parking lots or not, to help avoid visitors the hassle of entering and causing traffic jams .
The management said that the paid parking service has come into effect in the paid areas in Al Majaz waterfront where the new parking meters have already been installed.
The Management of Al Majaz Waterfront, the newest family tourist destination in the emirate, aims through the new paid parking system to reduce traffic jams during the weekend, apply traffic safety rules and prevent the misuse of parking lots for long periods, as well as to offer parking spaces for people with special needs.
The move comes in response to several comments made by visitors to the Waterfront who said that looking for a parking space costs time and can be very stressful due to traffic congestion at the main parking entrance, especially during weekends and holidays.
In his response to visitors’ complaints, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), earlier announced that the Authority is planning to construct multi-storey car parks during the second phase of Al Majaz Waterfront so as to meet the growing visitor demands.
Al Majaz Waterfront, the latest leisure and tourist destination in Sharjah and the debut project of Shurooq, is situated in Sharjah’s most vital and commercial district on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon.
As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, the Waterfront is home to many world-class facilities, including the Sharjah Musical Fountain, walking and jogging areas, special areas for family, the water-themed Splash Park, mini golf court, and children play areas. It also houses high-class restaurants and cafes, and is home to a rich and diverse range of exciting events.
