In an interview ahead of his much-awaited IIFA performance, the Bollywood star talks about embracing fatherhood, his craft and more
Confirming the news, Pakistani Consul-General in Dubai, Amanullah Larik said that during a dinner reception hosted by him last week, top Pakistani businessmen, after having details about the school project, came forward to the aid of the community and raised a sum of Dh550,000.
“It was a noble gesture. I am very proud of the community and very grateful to them for having come forward with the generous contributions,” said Mr Larik.
The dinner meeting was attended by 25 people, including Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, top businessmen as well as heads of Pakistani associations in the UAE.
“Within 10 minutes, the generous business community stepped in to the aid of the students who had expected the new block to be complete during the summer vacations,” said Mr Larik.
“The construction work will start as soon as a go-ahead is given by the Dubai Municipality, which is expected by this week, as there is no paucity of funds now. Meanwhile, the afternoon shift has been ended,” said the Pakistani consul-general.
“Both shifts have been merged and some students have been shifted to the Pakistani school in Sharjah while others have been adjusted in the same school,” he added.
A deadline of April 2004 had been given by the Dubai government to end the school’s afternoon shift but the Pakistani consulate had requested for an extension till September 1.
For a long time, the construction work on the new six-room block of His Highness Shaikh Rashid Al Maktoum School and the administration block of the Pakistan Islamia Higher Secondary School in Sharjah had been on hold due to lack of funds.
At present, a sum of Dh800,000 needed for the construction work has been raised, thanks to the joint efforts amount by the community and the consulate. The Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai had, earlier, donated Dh300,000 while the remaining amount — Dh500,000 — that was expected by the Pakistani community, was finally raised at the dinner party.
“We now have a total of Dh850,000 which will be utilised as soon as the construction starts taking shape,” said Mr Larik. He also said that a major portion of the funds was already in place in the Development Fund Account.
“Such generosity has bucked up spirits and I now hope that there is scope for other community projects as well,” he added.
