Speaking to Khaleej Times, Acting Consul-General at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, Najeeb Durrani said: “This decision was taken by the ambassador and the school management at a meeting held earlier this week. Earlier, teachers on husband’s visas were required to pay Dh1,000, but now since the fee for labour card renewal has gone up, the teachers are required to pay Dh3,300. This decision has been taken because the school is facing financial difficulties,” he added.
Denying any such report for the second time, a school representative, again speaking on behalf of the principal, Sayed Razi Shah Kazmi, said: “The school is not taking anything from the teachers. Some teachers have to pay fines due to the school being unable to renew its licence on time, but all these will be paid back to the teachers in due course.” The representative said that the ambassador also held a meeting with the teachers and assured them that the school would bear all the expenses regarding the labour card renewals.
Earlier last week, it had been learnt that several teachers of the school had been issued notices from the school authorities asking them to pay for their own labour cards and the accompanying fines as several cards had not been renewed by the school authorities. It was also learnt that the teachers had drafted a complaint against the matter, which had been signed by all the affectees and forwarded to the principal.
Pakistani schools in all emirates work under the patronage of the consulate. So all decisions, including recruitments as well as labour issues, are done after the approval of the mission.
