The Supreme Court has set aside Election Tribunal's September 29 order disqualifying the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) legislator Siddique Khan Baloch for life and ordered fresh elections in NA-154, Lodhran.
PTI senior leader Jehangir Tareen, who had moved the tribunal challenging his defeat in the 2013 polls, expressed satisfaction over the verdict regarding fresh elections and said he would contest them with full force.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the appeal of Siddique Baloch.
"For detailed reasons to be recorded later on, this appeal is partly allowed and the findings of Election Tribunal disqualifying the petitioner for lifetime are set aside," the court announced in its short order after hearing both the parties.
"As regards the issue of illegal and corrupt practices in the holding of elections in NA-154 Lodhran, lawyer for the petitioner conceded that his client is prepared to go for re-election in the said constituency," the court further ruled in its order.
Declaring the elections as void, the court directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold fresh elections in the said constituency.
