Pakistan is integral to the rise of Asia, and organic to its prosperity: Asif Durrani

In the annals of world history, August 14, 1947 is marked as a seminal event when the Muslims of South Asia, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah realised their cherished goal, and attained an independent homeland of their own. The day serves to remind us of the great ideals that lay at the root of our founding fathers' demand for Pakistan and the quest for freedom.
In 68 years of our journey, Pakistan has witnessed many ups and downs. History and circumstances have thrown numerous challenges our way. We have measured up to each one, with unwavering resolve and resilience that characterises the Pakistani nation.
Despite challenges on the security and energy fronts, Pakistan continues to forge ahead with confidence. The sacrifices of our people and brave armed forces are bearing fruit. Across the length and breadth of the country, terrorists and their nefarious agendas are being defeated with measurable success. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a manifestation of Pakistan's geo-economic importance and its capacity to become a reliable transit hub for Central and South Asia as well as the Middle East.
These are not ends in themselves, but portend far greater things to come. In this century, Pakistan is integral to the rise of Asia, and organic to its prosperity. No wonder that international observers are looking to Pakistan's prospects with renewed vigour and zeal.
As Pakistanis, it is incumbent upon us to uphold our faith in ourselves and our country, and work tirelessly to realise national aspirations for a common and prosperous future. Overseas Pakistanis in particular have a special role to play. Their honest, tireless, hard work in distant lands remains an important factor in Pakistan's continued progress and development.
Each year, August 14 must serve for the Pakistani community in the UAE to not only reiterate its commitment to Pakistan, but also to reaffirm and rejuvenate Pakistan's close and long-standing friendship with the UAE, its leadership and people. Through all trials and tribulations, the two countries have stood beside each other.
For their exemplary support, we must pay homage to the founding father of the UAE, Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and express gratitude to The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Long live Pakistan.
