Islamabad: The government has decided to challenge the Election Commission (EC) decision regarding suspension of farmers' package in the Supreme Court (SC).
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the attorney general (AG) of Pakistan to file a writ in the top court in this regard.
According to PM House spokesman Mussadaq Malik, a meeting was chaired by Sharif on Tuesday to review the situation arising out of suspension of the package. A decision was taken to approach the SC against this decision.
The premier, while directing the AG to file petition against the EC decision in SC, said that the farmers' package was not some community- or area-specific but it was meant for the entire farming community of the country.
The farmers' package was not announced to get their votes in favour of government but it was their right. Non-implementation of the farmers package will leave its impact on the entire country, he added.
