Speaking to Khaleej Times from Lahore, Haseeb Tahir Baig, brother-in-law of Dr Ayaz Ali Khan said the UAE authorities did not specify why he was being held in detention. “Right now he is tired and has been resting since he arrived in Lahore from Islamabad at 5am on Wednesday,” said Baig.

Dr Khan was detained by authorities on April 5 along with seven other Pakistanis from Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences. Two men were released on the same day.

“The UAE authorities have not barred Dr Khan from coming back to the country but he does not wish to return,” said Baig.

According to Baig, Dr Khan was interrogated up to four to five hours daily and was not allowed to meet anyone. “Dr Khan was not aware that other people were also detained along with him. He only knew the details when he arrived home,” said Baig, adding that the family was elated. Pakistan Embassy officials in the UAE were not available for comments on Dr Khan’s release.
