Haq was not carrying valid travel papers, Abdul Wahid, Press Counsellor at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, told Khaleej Times.

Haq was stopped at the airport but not detained, he said.

However, Haq, after leaving Dubai airport, told a Pakistani news channel that he was stopped because there was a single digit difference in his travel documents and visa. He said that he was stopped only for 15-20 minutes.By early afternoon, the singer had left the airport and was at his hotel.

He also said that he had come to Dubai to attend a dinner reception and to perform in a show. Haq is also the president of Youth Wing of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) poltical party.

A PTI UAE representative said that if there was a discrepancy in Haq’s papers, it should be dealt according to the law. “We do not encourage VIP culture,” he said.

Major-General Ahmed bin Thani, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, confirmed and said, “There is no security violation but it seems to be a documentation issue.”
