Pakistanis in UAE celebrate Independence Day

DUBAI/ABUDHABI – Today Pakistan celebrates 65 years of independence. Members of the community attended flag hoisting ceremonies in the country’s missions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

In his address, Ambassador of Pakistan Jamil Ahmed Khan extended warmest felicitations and best wishes to the Pakistanis, especially those settled in the UAE.

“I congratulate all community members living in the UAE on the Independence Day of Pakistan. Let us all realize the value of this gift bestowed on us by Allah Almighty and renew our commitment to serve Pakistan,” he said.

A separate flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the premises of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai where Tariq Iqbal Soomro, the Consul General of Pakistan hoisted the national flag in the presence of a large number of Pakistani community members.

Khan urged the community to maintain the spirit of independence and pursue the cherished objectives of our forefathers. Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out during the functions.

“Today’s Pakistan is a stronger Pakistan.Today we are a nuclear power. We have the 7th largest army in the world. We have the world’s largest deep sea port. Pakistan is rich in natural resources. We are the second largest producer of wheat and third largest producer of cotton. Today we have a functional democracy,” he said.

Consul General Soomro paid glowing tributes to the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and poet philosopher of the East, Allama Iqbal.

The expatriate Pakistanis, he said, can play a vital role in the country’s progress by sending their hard earned money through banking channelso that their contribution in the national economy could be quantified. He expressed the confidence that the Pakistani community in the UAE will play a lead role in this regard.

The Pakistan Association also held celebrations last evening to mark the event.
