Police Commander-in-Chief Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said the rumours that a part of the island was under water was false.

“Major-General AlMuzainah, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police and Dubai’s Crisis and Disaster Management Team Leader, denied rumors spreaded through social networking sites stating that a part of Palm Jumeirah Island was submerged by sea water,” a Facebook post from the police said. It is nothing more than a leak from the main water pipe which led to the disruption of traffic movement. ‘‘Competent bodies were in the field resolving the issue and traffic movement went back to normal.”

There were reports on Thursday of a pipe burst in a building on the island and that the surrounding area was flooded causing traffic snarls. Police confirmed this in a tweet which said: “Traffic congestion has been reported on Palm Jumeirah exit due to work maintenance by Dewa.”
