The new “self-service” system will be launched in two weeks.
At first, only two machines will be available, one at Mega Mall and the other at Sahara Centre. But in the near future, there will be a total of nine machines distributed in other shopping centres as well, said Abdul Rahman Al Mahmoud, Head of the Transport and Freightage Department, Sharjah Municipality.
“Once the machines are installed, residents will be provided with a number of options related to parking, such as buying credit for the pre-paid parking card, renewing the parking card and transferring credit to another person’s parking card,” he said.
The touch-screen machines will also have the option of displaying the parking violations and the option for people to pay their fines with a credit card or ATM card.
The nine machines, he pointed out, cost nearly Dh1 million and aims to help ease the paid parking system.
