The Abu Dhabi City Municipality is spending Dh87 million on different development and upgradation schemes to maintain its parks and recreational facilities.
The ongoing general maintenance projects target recreational facilities, public parks and landscaped spaces in Abu Dhabi Island extending over 8,000 hectares and costing more than Dh87 million per year.
Musabbah Mubarak Al Murar, acting general manager of Abu Dhabi City Municipality said such projects are part of the civic body's efforts to upgrade the infrastructure of Abu Dhabi and suburban areas.
"The number of the key general maintenance projects of recreational infrastructure currently underway in Abu Dhabi Island has reached 12 projects, as part of Phase II which started back in December 2014 and will conclude in December 2016," the acting GM said.
"The budgets have already been allocated to rehabilitate these facilities, as set forth in the overall development plan in order to realise the aspirations of the community," added Al Murar.
"The plan includes 10 projects related to the maintenance and operation of landscaping infrastructure, local irrigation networks, maintenance projects in two fountains and removal of distorting structures."
"The current maintenance projects also includes green belts, flower beds, trees and palms, in addition to local irrigation networks, parks furniture, sofas and, as well as mechanical and electro-mechanical games and lampposts, besides executing two contacts for fountains maintenance including 158 fountains of different sizes in Abu Dhabi Island," continued Al Murar,
The municipality continuously monitors and follows up all parks, service facilities and recreational facilities to repair any damage caused by natural or human factors by spotting and assessing the damage incurred on park assets.
