With the theme of heritage, the 260 youngsters attired in traditional clothing presented a play aimed at educating their fellow youth about the differences between past and present, recreated a traditional wedding, performed traditional dances, played traditional games, and participated in quizzes, poetry readings and competitions related to the theme.

The stage area was also decorated with elements of traditional style, and the kids were fed traditional food.

After the grand final of the 'Rafza' traditional dance performed by UAE national boys and girls, organisers and sponsors of the Modhesh Friends Club held an award ceremony for 38 young people for their performance in the first month of DSS, and to those who served as volunteers for club events.

The Modhesh Friends Club is sponsored by the Dubai Islamic Bank.

Suhaila Ghobash, supervisor of the Modhesh Friends Club, said the party was a success not only because of the fun the children had but because of the understanding it generated among them. "Sometimes the best way to teach kids something new is to attach the lesson to a fun activity," she said.

"In that way, it becomes something they will remember for life. Heritage is one of those things we need to teach our children, because they are the future and if they do not know our heritage, they will lose touch with our past."
