Dubai Municipality has started an intensive campaign against those who urinate in public places. The Waste Management Department of the Municipality has installed 700 awareness boards in several languages at a number of places across the city.

The awareness boards say that the offenders will be issued a fine of Dh500 in the first instance and if the person is found to be violating the rules for the second time the fine will be Dh1,000.

The move is part of Dubai Municipality's keenness to provide a clean and sustainable environment and enhance the participation and contribution of the community members in maintaining the public cleanliness and aesthetic appearance of the Emirate.

It is also aimed at increasing community environmental awareness in the Emirate of Dubai in light of the multiplicity of nationalities and cultures in the emirate. Awareness boards were installed to mitigate the common misconception about urination in public places.

The idea of ??initiative to install such boards came in as the suggestion of a customer of the Municipality, Ahmed Al Sammak, who submitted his proposal through the Municipality's Suggestion Scheme, "Have Your Say," which promotes effective communication with the public's ideas and suggestions that will benefit Dubai to become one of the cleanest cities in the world.
