Two pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run incident in Dubai last Friday and the motorist has been taken into custody by Dubai Police within an hour he fled the scene, according to a top police official.
The Asian motorist ran over the victims, who were standing along the roadside, and drove away in an apparent bid to avoid legal repurcussions.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that Al Quisais Police station officials acted quickly and identified the car and its driver. After investigating the accident scene, they also found out the colour of the car, the car type and issued a circular to all police patrols and police stations. Very soon, they found the car parked in an internal road in Muhaisna.
Colonel Yusuf Al Odaidi, Director of Qusais Police Station said that the police received information about the accident on Friday around 5am. They were told that two persons on Mohammed bin Zayed Road, on the direction of Butaina, were hit by a motorist who escaped after running over and causing the death of two pedestrians.
The senior police officials then rushed to the site and found that one of the victims had injuries on his head and the second one had multiple fractures. The two Asians - 30-year-old M.R and 29-year-old Sh.H - died on the spot.
The police officials who arrested the fugitive driver within an hour have found the car registration in the name of an Asian woman.
