Photo exhibition to raise money for WFP

DUBAI — Russian photographer Nikolai Ignatiev’s works were displayed at an exhibition that started on Monday night. Organised by Blink Images at the B21 Gallery here, the event was meant to support the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

The exhibition will run until March 3.

Ignatiev, whose works mainly revolved around the former Soviet Union, Asia and the Middle East, had led an eventful life, including the wrongful incarceration in a mental asylum.

Some 30 of the Russian master’s photographs are on display, where 10 copies of each image are on sale at around Dh2,000 per copy.

The collection on display, titled ‘Painting with Light’, was the last publication of his works before he died of cancer in 2004.

Blink Images, a firm responsible for image libraries, including arabianEye, the largest collection of Middle Eastern stock images in the world, has expressed admiration for the artist.

“Ignatiev has a distinctive style where he transforms the mundane into the beautiful, by artfully combining shadows with an unreal colour intensity. He has documented regions with conflict with such powerful imagery that we are proud to share it with the audience,” said Celia Peterson, Director of Blink.

The proceeds of the sales will go to WFP, the world’s largest humanitarian agency.
