On display at the exhibition at the Jewellery Court in Deira City Centre are striking images of people, nature and developments in the UAE.
The exhibition will run until August 13 when selected images and photographers will be awarded.
A notable participant this year is the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage. Images of popular places such as Deira, Shindagha and Dubai Creek highlight the rapid development that Dubai has witnessed.
Pictures of the Sharjah Corniche and Dubai Fish Market in the 1940s, the pearl merchants and abras in 1948, the Dubai Creek in 1950s and the Abu Dhabi Corniche in 1958, enlighten the audience about the importance of maritime life in the emirates.
The image of an old map drawn by Ahmed Ibn Majid in 900AH (1500 AD) and the copy of the school certificate of Ahmed bin Saeed bin Ghabash from Al Falah School dated 1348 AH (1948 AD) reveal evidence of technology and education in the country then. Several copies of poems, with verses ranging from 62 to 1082, written by Ahmed bin Majid bin Mohammed Sa’adi Majdi Shehabuddeen way back from 866 AH (1466 AD), exhibit the cultures and traditions of the country.
The exhibition is open from 10am to 10pm.
