Plan to link Dubai with all UAE coastal cities

DUBAI — The Strategic Plan of Marine Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) extending up to 2020 aims at linking the coastal cities of the UAE with Dubai with the shoreline extending up to 1,500km.

This ambitious scheme will be carried out in multiple massive projects to uplift the excellence bar of Dubai marine transport services.

Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marine Transport Agency, said, “The Agency is seeking to upgrade all marine transport services, including passenger services, cargo services and tourist excursions over the next decade. It will also endeavour to link the city of Dubai with other coastal cities of the UAE across a coastal strip extending 1,500km in place of the existing 70-km marine lines."

“The plan, which is currently being developed, will include a floating hotel project, floating restaurant project and marine recreational projects like water bikes and ships. The plan also stresses compliance with world-class standards of security and safety. The floating hospital project is intended to provide rapid and timely deployment of medical services. All of these futuristic projects are orchestrated under the umbrella of the RTA," he added.

Al Mulla said the public needs to be enlightened and educated about marine transport process through the marine gate of Dubai city. More than 27 million commuters used various kinds of marine transport modes during the period from January till the end of October of this year travelling between the two banks of Dubai Creek.
