Plastic recycling drive launched in schools

DUBAI — Masafi, a mineral water company, has partnered with the Emirates Environment Group (EEG) to launch a plastic recycling initiative in schools across the UAE, it was announced yesterday at a Press conference held at the Dubai International Academy.

At its pilot phase, this initiative will involve 10 educational institutes, Asma'a School, Dubai College, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Dubai International Academy, Emirates International School, Al Shurooq School, Jumeirah College, Safia Al Qurashia School, Jumeirah Model School and Al Ittihad School. Later, the programme will be expanded to cover an additional 30 schools across the country.

As part of the initiative, recycling stations will be placed next to Masafi vending machines in order to popularise the concept of recycling among children.

Ashraf Abushady, CEO, Masafi, said, “All our bottles are made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) in order to ensure that they can be recycled. Customers these days are interested not only in what they're drinking, but also what they're drinking from.”
