Probe into man’s death at construction site begins

SHARJAH — Sharjah Police are investigating the death of an Indian man, Mohammed Riyas Ali, 74, whose body was found in the early hours on January 24 in a building under construction in the emirate’s Al Nabbah area, sources have said.

According to the security guard at the construction site and other witnesses, a man was brought to the building in a car around 1am.

When the guard heard the sound of a car door opening, he came out to see what was happening. He then heard someone asking for help.

When he saw the old man lying on the ground, he thought he was drunk and asked him to leave. But the man was already dead, he said.

The guard immediately called the owner of the building who informed Sharjah Police.

The initial reports said the man died of haemorrhage.

Sources said the man didn’t have any ID cards on him, but he was later identified by his son-in-law who filed a report with the police that his father-in-law was missing had not returned home.
