Programme to rehabilitate disabled opens in Sharjah

SHARJAH - A lecture on 'The techniques of breaking bad news to patients and their families' was organised yesterday by the Centre for Early Intervention of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services as part of its educational programme which began on Saturday.

More than 54 participants from different Arab countries, including Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, attended the programme, in addition to representatives of various government and private institutions in the UAE.

The week-long programme will deal with topics related to the rehabilitation of people with special needs and educating their families.

Delivering the lecture on the first day, Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sabi, paediatric specialist of children with special needs at King Fahd Hospital in Suadi Arabia, stressed the importance of educating family members about the nature of disabilities and effective communication strategies, saying that it may positively affect perceived quality of life and ultimate functional abilities of the people with special needs.
