‘Protect children from porn, abuse’

The Sharjah Police have warned parents to be watchful against children buying and watching pornographic movies, which are being promoted by criminal gangs.

The police have intensified inspection campaign in the industrial areas targeting trading, pirating and promoting of pornographic movies. The Anti-Organised Crime Department of the Sharjah Police said that it has noticed that large number of pornographic movies are being sold illegally by some gangs in the emirate. A top official of the Sharjah Police said that large quantities of pornographic CDs made in an Asian country and then copied at a location in Sharjah were seized during recent inspection campaigns. According to report issued by the department, a number of cases on sexual abuse of children were reported in Sharjah. The report also stated that a number of people were arrested for following children on their way to and from schools.

Col. Abdullah Al Khayaal, Director of Public Relation at the Sharjah Police, urged people to report any incident of child abuse to the police to help combat the phenomenon.
