Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman has said his party is well-prepared to win the upcoming by-poll in NA-122, Lahore, by "defeating election rigging".
"I have seen the passion of people who have now been awakened. We will defeat election rigging and celebrate the beginning of a new Pakistan on the night of October 11," Imran said while addressing an election rally in Samanabad, Lahore, on Sunday evening.
The PTI chief has plunged headlong into election campaign in NA-122 where he was defeated by former speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the 2013 general polls which were annulled by an election tribunal due to gross irregularities committed in the poll. Ayaz has gone for re-election but the PTI has named Aleem Khan as its candidate. The high profile by-polls have assumed a test for the public support of both parties. Polling will be held on October 11 with political analysts predicting a close contest.
PTI chairman alleged the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government was trying to rig the by-election in Lahore through women polling stations for which the PTI had also braced to take necessary actions.
He called upon the PTI's women wing to fight rigging this time.
Imran said the Sharif family has ruled Punjab six times and Nawaz Sharif became premier for third time in 2013, yet the condition of people in terms of provision of clean water, health and education facilities have only worsened. Their focus has been only on mega projects like metro bus system to get huge commissions. Imran accused Nawaz Sharif of investing billions outside Pakistan through his sons and failing to pay taxes.
