Ras Al Khaimah - The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Public Works and Services Department has started the construction work of a walkway at the Qawasim Corniche in Ras Al Khaimah.
The 1,800m walking and jogging stretch will be equipped with parking spaces, a concrete barrier and a 6 metre wide interlock pathway, according to a top official.
Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director of the RAK Public Works and Services Department, said the new walkway will have a rubber floor to ease walking and jogging.
“Maintenance works are going on at the Qawasim Corniche in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.”
Al Hammadi said several restaurants and game areas have been opened at the corniche in collaboration with the RAK Hospitality Group, along with some pathways for bicycles.
“The RAK Public Works and Services Department has also introduced some amendments to the middle pathway.” The maintenance works are also under way at the old Corniche, he stated. “We have so far finished three of the four stages for developing the corniche, the last of which extended over 600 metres.”
Al Hammadi said not only a pathway has been built at the corniche, but also the old wall, which had got affected by the water from sea waves, has been removed.
“The department has also doubled the width of the pathway that has become 4.76 metres wide and some rain water drainages have been installed so that the sea water does not affect the road next to the corniche.”
Earlier this year, the department completed the construction works of a new walkway at the Al Muairidh area. The 500m walking and jogging stretch was equipped with 130 parking spaces.
