WHAT is the miracle of Quran, and how an ordinary person can comprehend it? It is the common question put forward by many people.
Before discussing authentic evidence, a few common examples in society can be taken in view. As one knows there exists a huge body of literature in the world, in different languages. But no literature can exist in its classical form for a very long time. Newspaper columns such as ‘Hundred Years Ago’ provide us a glimpse into a bygone era which gives a proof how things, including issues, language and expressions, change over a period of time.
But the Holy Quran, which has been providing guidance to the mankind for 14 centuries since its revelation, has remained untouched by change. And any person who reads the Quran today finds its verses dealing with the current issues. This is why we say that the Quran is for all times and it has been protected by God.
Verily We have sent down the Reminder (the Quran), and most surely, We will be its Guardian. (Al-Hijr-9)
All other scriptures that were revealed prior to the Holy Quran also exist today but not in their exact form as communities, for whom they were sent, fabricated many of their articles of faith as well as their legal commandments. But it is a miracle that the Holy Quran’s purity was guarded through the ages. The holy book reflects on the ancient history, the history of the bygone people, facts of the previous scriptures and provides most details of the sources, which deal with the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In the past, many people tried to copy or desecrate the Quran but their efforts proved futile. Many experts in Arabic language themselves have admitted their failure to find a book equal to the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran is a miracle in every respect — creation, expression and recitation, they observed. They declared that when the Quran is the source of all literature, how the world can produce something its equal? The Holy Quran clearly says:
Tell them: even if whole of the mankind and jin-kind were united, to produce a scripture like Quran they could not produce the same thereof, even if they back up each other with help and support. (Bani-Israil'88).
When they failed to undertake this first challenge of Quran, it put before them a comparatively less difficult task to produce 10 surah as in the Holy Quran:
Or do they say: He forged it? Say: Produce then, 10 Surah like it, forged and call to your aid whomever you can, besides Allah- if you speak the truth. (Hud-13)
When they were unable to meet the challenge posed by the Holy Quran it challenged them again to produce even a single chapter as in the Holy Quran:
And if you are in doubt of what We have sent down (from time to time) through Our servant, then produce just a chapter like thereof; and call your witness and helpers if any besides Allah, if you are truthful. (Al Baqara-23)
