A radar in Ras Al Khaimah caught a motorist speeding at 204km/h, a top police officer has revealed.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director-general of the central operations department, said this was the highest speed detected in recent times.
The speedster was caught on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road, where the speed limit is 120km/h.
The police have summoned the reckless driver and impounded his car, the officer said.
"Speeding fines go up to Dh3,000 along with 23 black points and impoundment of the vehicle for 60 days in case the driver exceeds the speed limit by more than 80km/h."
Official records show that up to 1,514 drivers have been caught for exceeding the speed limit by 60km/h in Ras Al Khaimah this year so far.
