RAS AL KHAIMAH — Several residents here complained of sharp and inexplicable increase in water bills issued by the Emirate's Water and Electricity Department (WED).
The recent bills indicate that one gallon was priced at 3 fills instead of 2 fills as the case was.
"I have received my monthly water and electricity bill and was shocked to see 50 per cent increase in water bill, one man told Khaleej Times on condition of anonymity.
It is said that the WED has put the increase into effect without prior notice to the public. "There is no justification to raise the price of such basic primary necessities without any intimation to the public, which is an extra burden," he added.
"The bill I have received this month is very high and at first glance I thought that it had been sent to one of the nearby manufacturing establishments and mistakenly sent to me," Sulieman Almahi, a RAK-based Sudanese national told Khaleej Times.
