RAK Ruler names municipality chief

RAS AL KHAIMAH —His Highness Shaikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has issued a decree appointing Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi as Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality.

Al Shamsi is currently Director-General of RAK Municipality.

Shaikh Saqr issued another decree appointing Mohammed Saqr Al Asam as Director-General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality.

Al Asam is currently the Deputy Director-General of RAK Municipality.

41 motorcycles impounded

ABU DHABI — The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrol Department confiscated 41 motorcycles in Bani Yas from June 11 to June 16.

Major Hamad Mubarak Al Ameri, Head of Abu Dhabi Traffic Investigations Section, said that the 41 motorcycles were driven without number plates.

The move came in light of the strategy of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to spread awareness on the roads to save lives.

Drivers urged caution

AL AIN — Lt. Col. Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaily, Head of the Al Ain Traffic and Police Patrol, yesterday urged drivers to maintain extra caution during the dusty weather which has lashed the UAE.

Al Khaily appealed to all drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations to avoid major accidents.

"Drivers should maintain and clean their cars, especially the front portion, the back windows, and side mirrors in the dusty conditions. They should stop driving whenever the climate worsens," he added.

The official also appealed to drivers to turn the headlights on while driving in bad weather.

Japanese official signs MoU

ABU DHABI — Toshizo Ido, Governor of Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, and Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Director- General, Abu Dhabi Education Council, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on fiendship exchange in the field of education between Hyogo Prefecture and the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Both sides agreed to promote ties and exchange information and people in the field of education including students.

The Governor is currently on a visit to the UAE to promote cooperation in various fields. He will also visit Dubai to explore possibilities of promoting ties.
