The door is now open for participation in the 15th edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Holy Quran Award (RAKQA).
December 18 has been set as the deadline for applying to take part in the competition, annually held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
Shaikh Saqr bin Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the RAK Holy Quran Establishment, on Sunday said the initial qualifying tests shall be held in January 2015 whereas competitors will sit for final examinations in February next year.
“The prudent leadership believes in the important role of the Holy Quran in building up faithful, strong, aware, young generations who can serve their country and maintain its achievements,” he said.
Ahmed Al Shihi, Director-General of the establishment, said the top ten winners in the six categories of the award will walk away with over Dh760,000, along with certificates of appreciation.
“Participation in the award is open for only RAK nationals and residents whereas contestants, be they male or female, needed to memorise three parts of the Holy Quran to be eligible for participation.”
The establishment has distributed 20,000 brochures of the award at public and private entities across the emirate, he added. “These feature the categories of the contest, as well as registration and tests timings, and how to chip in.”
Ahmed Subaian, secretary-general of the award and head of the supreme organising committee, said the competition this year is packed with diverse activities that address all ages.
“The establishment maximises its effort to attract memorisers of the Holy Quran, as well as the public not only to the Quran examination sessions, but also to the lecture programme, and other activities.”
Applicants may get more information through two cell phone numbers 0555022056 for men and 0555022535 for female, he stated. “The supreme organising committee of the award has assigned four panels of judges for male contestants and five jury panels of judges for female competitors.”
