Real-life models to walk the ramp

Dubai - 'Fashion for All' aims at boosting the confidence of people and makes them feel happy about themselves.

Are you conscious about your looks? Do you idolise models and celebrities and seek inspiration from them? If you answer yes, then give yourself a break from the unreal world and accept the way you are.
'Fashion for All' aims at connecting people with oneself. It boosts their confidence and makes them feel happy about themselves. The event will be held at The Fridge, Al Serkal Avenue in Al Quoz on Saturday at 7pm.
 
Women with curves (plus) size
"We have started this unique concept of showcasing plus size models or people with different physical attributes in 2010. While attending a fashion show, I realised I couldn't relate with the models at all as they were extremely thin, tall or fair.
So, I decided to bring in the real people on the ramp who are too short, too fat or may be too dark," said Zareen khan, one of the organisers of the show.
Around 50 models of all sizes, ages and ethnicities will walk the ramp this year. The show will be focused on the real-life models from different communities in Dubai, who are making a difference in the society and living out their passions at the same time. Age is not a barrier for this. Last year; the oldest model was 67 years old.
Disni Ranaweera, a plus size model from Sri Lanka, said: "I am 5.2 inches, 72kg and my head is shaved. I don't have normal looks and face challenges while buying clothes. This show gives me the strength and that extra confidence to feel good about myself."
A 'special' walk
According to the oragnisers of the event, ramp for 'Special Needs' children and adults was initiated last year. It gave a platform to differently-abled people to come and talk about their talents.
"This year, around 15-25 special needs people are going to walk the ramp. Through this, we want people to accept the real people around. They are also very much part of our society and doing well for themselves," mentioned Zareen.
Unsung 'super heroes'
The show will also feature the stories of the people doing something extraordinary for the society but are not much heard off. The documentaries will be presented on a few inspiring and talented people like an NGO which works for the rescue of pets, a professional chef with a hearing disability and many more.
